How It Works

How this Twitter GIF downloader works

Three steps — the hardest part is finding the post's share link, and even that's just a couple of taps.

01

Copy the post's link

Open the tweet with the GIF, tap the share icon, and choose "Copy link." On desktop, just copy the URL from your address bar.

02

Paste it above

Drop the link into the box and click Download GIF. The tool reads the post's public data and lists every attached file.

03

Save what you need

Preview each file with its dimensions, then download it directly — one at a time, or all of them if the post has a gallery.

Good to Know

Understanding Twitter's media formats

"Twitter GIF" is a slightly misleading term — here's what's actually happening behind the scenes, and why it matters for what you download.

MP4 Video

Every GIF uploaded to Twitter gets converted to MP4 automatically. Video compresses far better than the GIF format, so what plays as a "GIF" in your feed is really a short, looping video file.

JPEG / JFIF

Static images are often served as JFIF, a JPEG variant. It opens in any image viewer — if a downloaded file shows a .jfif extension, you can rename it to .jpg with no loss of quality.

PNG

Screenshots, logos, and graphics with transparency are usually kept as PNG so the quality and transparency survive Twitter's compression.

WebP

On some connections, Twitter serves WebP instead of JPEG or PNG to shrink file size for modern browsers. This tool downloads whichever format Twitter's servers actually hand back.

Need to turn that downloaded MP4 back into an actual animated GIF, or grab a GIF from somewhere other than Twitter? Our GIF Downloader handles direct links from Giphy, Tenor, Imgur, and Reddit.

Why People Use It

Built around how Twitter actually works

Fast, no processing wait

Media is fetched the moment you paste a link — no queue, no ads to sit through.

🖼️

Gallery support

Posts with several images or GIFs get every file listed separately, so you pick exactly what you want.

📐

Dimensions shown upfront

Every preview shows width × height before you download, so you know what you're getting.

🔒

No login, ever

Only public post data is read. Your Twitter/X account is never asked for or connected.

🎯

Original quality

Files are pulled at Twitter's highest available resolution and bitrate, not a re-compressed copy.

🧩

Handles all four link styles

twitter.com, x.com, and mobile.twitter.com links all work the same way.

Privacy

Your Twitter account is never part of this

This tool only reads data that's already public — the same information anyone sees when they open the post in a browser. It never asks for your Twitter/X password, never connects to your account, and never uploads the media it finds to Crestexa's servers.

  • Only public post pages can be read — private and protected accounts are intentionally out of reach.
  • Downloads stream straight from Twitter's own media servers to your device.
  • If Twitter changes something on their end and a link stops working, we'd rather show an honest error than a fake result.
// what actually happens
paste(tweet_url)
  → read public post data
  → list attached media
  → your_browser.download(file)
// what does NOT happen
no login · no password · no stored files
Questions

Frequently asked

Is this Twitter GIF downloader free?+
Yes, completely free with no sign-up and no limit on how many links you paste. It's part of Crestexa's free toolkit for creators.
Why does Twitter show my GIF as an MP4 file?+
Twitter converts every uploaded GIF into an MP4 video because video compresses far better than the GIF format. What plays as a "GIF" in your feed is almost always a short video, and that's what you'll actually download.
Which links does this tool accept?+
Any public post URL from twitter.com, x.com, or mobile.twitter.com. Paste the link exactly as it appears in your address bar or the post's share menu.
Can I download from a private or protected account?+
No. Only public posts can be read this way — private or protected accounts require a login, which this tool deliberately never asks for.
Does this tool store my downloads or Twitter login?+
No login is ever requested, and no files pass through Crestexa's servers. Media is fetched directly by your browser from Twitter's own servers.
What if the post has more than one image or GIF?+
Every media file in the post is listed separately with its own preview and download button, so you can grab only the ones you need.
Why did fetching fail for a link that looks correct?+
Twitter occasionally changes how post data is served, and posts can be deleted, made private, or removed after sharing. If a link fails, first check that it still opens normally in a browser tab.
