He began to practice piano at Governor Morehead School at age 7 and lost his left eye at age 14 unfortunately. He was a piano player for the Modern Era Artist before he was recommended to relocate to Nashville. He joined RCA Records in 1973 and came up with popular tracks such as Pure Love, Stranger in My House, I Wouldn’t Have Missed It for The World, and What a Difference You’ve Made in My Life. His life was covered under A&E Network’s Biography television series in 2000. Ronnie was voted CMA Male Vocalist of the Year three times, Entertainer of the Year in 1977, and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2014 with Mac Wiseman and Hank Cochran. His most recent release is a duet called Deborah Silver Jambalaya. He played his last concert in music at the Bridgestone Arena with his friends and family in October 2023 and still records and hosts his podcast Music and Milsap.
