According to an indictment as well as court records obtained by Billboard, YouTuber & rapper Trevor Hurd, also known as Crip Mac, was arrested in LA County court on federal gun allegations on Tuesday (December. five) & is currently in custody pending trial.
The 30-year-old was arrested only seconds after an LA County judge decided to drop gun charges against the South Los Angeles man and expectant father in connection with his September 3 arrest for felon in possession of a handgun. Hurd was detained by waiting U.S. Marshals seconds after learning the state charges had been dismissed. They informed him that his case had been sent to the US Attorney’s office, where he would face the gun charges in federal court.
Hurd’s two-month-old indictment was unsealed just before his arrest on Tuesday. It stated that he was charged with being a felon in possession of an unregistered fir earm and ten rounds of ammunition.
“Defendant HURD possessed such ammunition knowing that he had previously been convicted of at least one of the following felony crimes,” the indictment states, citing five arrests since 2014. Hurd was again arrested for felon in possession of a firearm in Los Angeles County on July 27, 2022, and October 12, 2021.
Hurd was arrested on Nov. 8, 2017, for attempted second-degree armed robbery; Aug. 12, 2015, for grand theft; and Oct. 20, 2014, for transportation of a prohibited substance.
Curtis Briggs, a California defence attorney who is not engaged in the Crip Mac case, tells Billboard that it is not uncommon for federal officials to take over state criminal prosecutions in cooperation with local authorities.

Local authorities may become upset by moderate sentencing for repeat criminals and request that the federal government consider the case for prosecution. This adds more prison time to the conversation,” Briggs explains.
According to Briggs, the feds may possibly be working on a wider case, such as a Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organisations Act (RICO) prosecution involving numerous defendants and a superseding indictment.
The worst-case scenario is that he becomes involved in a wider gang conspiracy and RICO case including deaths. Briggs adds that in that situation, the sentence would most certainly be life in prison. If he is only facing firearms charges, “it is possible, depending on the exact facts of his case, that he could serve ten years. Briggs believes it depends on a variety of individual circumstances and case details.
Hurd is now being kept in pre-trial custody. His next hearing is planned for Monday, December 11is
